Peugeot 308 Touring Wins Top Australian Design Awards

The Peugeot 308 Touring wagon has won two prestigious awards at the 2009 Australian International Design Awards.

It claimed an Australian International Design Award in the Automotive and Transport category, as well as the Wheels Automotive Design Award for Best Interior.

The award, which was presented by Standards Australia at a gala dinner in Melbourne, recognised Peugeot’s success in blending good design, rigorous standards, quality manufacturing and innovative application.

The judges noted that the 308 Touring interior featured “outstanding versatility with a highly functional seating configuration.

“A durable and versatile car with interchangeable seating arrangements, excellent storage and providing safe, reliable and economic transportation.”

The 308 Touring comes standard as a five seat wagon, with the option of adding two extra seats in the rear – however, the modularity of the interior design is available whether you have five or seven seats.

The middle row of three individual seats and the optional third row are fully flexible, with the ability to remove and re-position all of the seats to suit the user’s needs – there are over 50 possible seating configurations.

The 308 Touring can go from being a seven-seat people mover one day, to a four seat family car the next day, to a two-seat wagon the next.

Regardless of whether the option for seven seats is taken up, the sixth and seventh seat anchor points come standard, allowing for the three seats in the middle row to be moved about the cabin.

Dominique Monet, Regional Director for Australia and New Zealand for Automobiles Peugeot, believes the interior is a key feature in the success of the 308 Touring in Australia.

“The 308 is Peugeot’s best-selling car in Australia today,” he said.

“Clearly Australians are attracted to the style, quality and versatility of the European interior.

“Peugeot paid particular attention to ensuring that the 308 Touring offered an interior configuration that can be easily re-arranged to match the changing requirements of today’s car buyers.

“At Peugeot, we see no reason why functionality should come at the cost of style.”

“The Australian International Design Award gives Peugeot something else to celebrate in its 60th year in Australia.”
