Once again Peugeot has demonstrated its commitment to design and innovation by submitting the stunning new RCZ 2+2 Coupe and 3008 SUV for scrutiny at the Australian International Design Awards.

It was announced today that both vehicles have made the final round for judging. “This is an exciting time to be a part of the automotive industry, as we enter a decade that will no doubt be heralded as the decade of innovation and technology. We here at Peugeot Australia are looking forward to setting new benchmarks in design and innovation, both of which are inherent in the Peugeot Marque,” said Mr Ken Thomas, General Manager / Director of Peugeot Australia.

In 2009 the 308 Touring was designated the Design Award, with judges commenting – “the 308 Touring represents excellence in design as it caters perfectly for Australian buyers following the growing trend of down-sizing, into more economical and environmentally friendly vehicles, without sacrificing on comfort, performance, or practicality.” Then in 2010 the 308 CC was nominated for a Good Design Award and now Peugeot Australia are hoping for a “hat-trick” with the RCZ and 3008 SUV.

Mr Richard Grant, National Marketing Manager for Peugeot Australia commented, “The Australian International Design Awards reflects Australias’ enthusiasm for clever design and we are looking forward to being able to place this prestigious mark on the RCZ and 3008. It would certainly confirm what we already know – that these two vehicles represent the benchmark standard in their respective classes.”

The judging panel of the Australian International Design Awards utilise a model of Good, Better, Best and are asked to review each entry based on a common set of assessment criteria, which includes form, function, quality, safety and of course, sustainability. Following that there is the Design Award for Innovation and a Best In Class Award.

The judges consider the following questions when addressing the Assessment Criteria.

Innovation: Is the design new and original? What new materials and technology are used in an innovative way? Does the design feature any “world first” innovations?

Form: Is the styling appropriate for use and is it resolved from every angle? Does the design evoke an emotional connection with its user?

Function: Does it perform well? Does it meet user needs and is it easy to use? Has ergonomics been used in design? And what about maintenance?

Quality: How well has the product been made, finished and presented? Is it durable? Are materials and manufacturing techniques appropriate? Does it represent good value for money?

Safety: Does the product protect the user from harm? Are there safeguards against unintentional use? Does it comply with all applicable standards and regulations and does it clearly communicate hazards and warnings?

Sustainability: Is there a need for the product and is it long lasting? Is the design water, material and / or energy efficient? Has it been designed for disassembly and recyclability?

The Best In Class Design Award comes from a product not just meeting, but exceeding the applicable assessment criteria, as well as breaking new ground, promoting the value of design to the public, reinforcing the “design strategy” throughout the entire business and achieving commercial success.

Speaking of the announcement…“These nominations as finalists are recognition of our long history of being at the forefront of technology” Richard Grant said. “This heritage of innovation stretches all the way back over 200 years, to when Peugeot began”.
